For Your Information
Programs, Services and Research Studies
The Family Studies Research Center Research Study
The Family Studies Research Center is conducting a genetic research study of autism and related disorders (e.g., Asperger’s Syndrome, PDD-NOS). We are working with centers for autism research and treatment in order to reach out to families across the United States who might be interested in participating with us.
The major goal of the project is to identify a gene, or set of genes, that underlie autism and related disorders. By studying families with one or more cases of autism, researchers can identify genetic factors that may pass from one generation to the next and predispose some family members to spectrum disorders.
This study involves in-person interviews, an interactive observation with the children & and a blood sample. At your convenience, a trained member of our research team will meet with you either in your home or at their offices. Daytime, evening & weekend appointments are available.
To find out more about the study please call Connor Puleo at 718.584.9000x3628 or email connor.puleo@mssm.edu. www.mssm.edu/psychiatry/famstud.shtml

NIH Center of Excellence in Autism Research at the University of Pittsburgh Research Study
You are invited to consider participation in ongoing research projects (How People with Autism Think and How the Brain Works, Finding the Genes for Autism, Family Study, and Infant Study) studying how people with autism think and the genetic link to autism. Nancy J. Minshew, M.D., an internationally recognized expert in autism, is also the Director of the University of Pittsburgh based Collaborative Programs of Excellence in Autism (CPEA). Dr. Minshew is collaborating with a team of scientists from Carnegie Mellon University and University of Illinois at Chicago to find the neurological, genetic, and cognitive basis for autism.
Benefits of Participating in Our Research Studies:
+ A gold standard diagnostic and psychological assessment and report at no cost to you. + Language Assessment results at no cost to you. + Our reports may help in SSI determination, educational planning, and vocational training. + Airfare, Travel, and Lodging expenses provided for out of town participants. + Participants may receive up to $425 based upon the number of studies completed and for which they qualify. + Weekend and evening appointments available for most studies.
